2014 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball ChampionshipJune 20-28, 2014Mattamy Athletic CentreToronto, Ontario, Canada
Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to be hosting the top female wheelchair basketball players on the planet June 20-28, 2014 in Toronto for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship. World-class female athletes will converge on the Mattamy Athletic Centre to showcase the elite skills and athleticism that make wheelchair basketball the most popular sport for athletes with a disability in the world.
The tournament will be the largest women’s world championship in history featuring 12 participating countries representing three international zones. Due to the ongoing growth and prosperity of wheelchair basketball worldwide, the women’s competition will be held separately from the men’s for the first time in 20 years. It is a milestone event that celebrates the ongoing growth of women’s sport, inclusivity, and accessibility, and will forge a legacy for female wheelchair basketball athletes in Canada and around the world.
Team Canada is in pursuit of an unprecedented seventh straight podium performance at the world championships, including a run of four consecutive gold medals from 1994-2006. Coupled with their success at the Paralympic Games, they are amongst the most successful and dominant teams of all-time in Canadian amateur sport.
