What was your experience like when you played your very first wheelchair basketball game?
Ask Team Canada – Nik Goncin
“I was 16 years old when I first tried wheelchair basketball. I remember feeling like a pylon on the court. I just couldn’t move around in the chair.
I could shoot okay. I could put the ball up and hit the rim so I thought I wasn’t too bad. But I was taken aback by the speed of the game and the other players. In retrospect when looking back at it, the players weren’t super fast but I was just that slow!

That’s my fondest memory I suppose, is realizing that I’m not as good as I think I am and that this game is a lot faster than I had anticipated. It didn’t take long to fall in love with the sport.”
