Hoopfest, presented by Toyota Canada, is Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s signature fundraising event. The half-day corporate challenge builds team spirit among co-workers, friends, family, colleagues and clients by providing individuals the opportunity to participate in fun and completely inclusive wheelchair basketball tournament. The goal of the event is to raise funds that enable more Canadians to experience the life-changing impact of wheelchair basketball while bringing awareness to the sport and athletes. Teams of 4-6 players enjoy the thrill and challenge of playing 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball, while interacting with Team Canada athletes and coaches.
Impact of Your Generosity
Wheelchair Basketball Canada strongly believes in the power of sport to move people toward enhanced health, stronger communities and improved quality of life. That is why we are fiercely dedicated to creating opportunities for all Canadians to reach their full potential both on and off the court. Whether competing for fun or pursuing the Paralympic podium, our vision is for every Canadian to be given the opportunity to play. The funds raised at Hoopfest are used to enable all Canadians to be active, be included, and be empowered to pursue their own individual excellence. Through your support more Canadians living with disability will experience the life-changing benefits of wheelchair basketball.
The tournament features up-to 16 teams (4-6 players per team) and each team will play five games (3 round robin and 2 playoff games). Games will be 10 minutes in length and played on a half-court. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony to recognize the top three teams.
Team Canada Athletes
One of the highlights for participants will be the opportunity to engage with Team Canada athletes as well as next gen program athletes from Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s National Academy. With the event taking place our National Training Centre, it is a perfect opportunity for our athletes to share their experiences and provide expert coaching tips to participants.
How to Register
Each team is asked to commit a minimum registration fee of $1500 (with all proceeds going towards grassroots wheelchair basketball programs in Canada). The deadline to register online is November 8, 2018 – Click here to register.
In addition to the registration fee, individuals and teams will be asked to help raise money through their own peer networks – it is as easy as sending a few e-mails to family, friends, coworkers etc. We will provide templated messaging and links to personalized fundraising pages.
