McLachlan & Benoit Named Pioneer Classic MVP and Most Sportsmanlike
Birmingham, AL - Canadian Sr. Women's National Team player Janet McLachlan (Vancouver, BC) was named the Pioneer Classic Most Valuable Player on Sunday. Competing in the tournament on behalf of her school the University of Alabama, McLachlan helped her team clinch the tournament title with a win over RIC sky. They finished with a 3-0 record. Fellow Canadian Sr. Women's National Team player Chantal Benoit (Mont-Saint Hilaire, QC) received the nod as the tournament's most sportsmanlike player. The
tournament was held at the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL and served as a warm-up event for the athletes who are preparing for the
Sr. Women's National Team Selection Camp beginning January 20, 2010. Canada will compete in the 2010 World Championships (July 5-17, 2010 in
Birmingham, GB). This year
the Canadian Women are striving for an incredible fifth straight Gold medal
finish at the World Championships (held every four years) following 1st place finishes in 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2006. The Canadian Men and Women are the reigning World
Champions, having dominated the previous Championships in 2006.
