About the Americas Cup
The Americas Cup is the America Zone Qualifying tournament for entry into the World Championships set to take place July 2010 in Birmingham, England. The top three teams from the event will earn a spot amongst the world’s best representing North and South America.
Tournament Structure
The Americas Cup in Richmond, BC will host the men’s division only. Teams represented will be Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, United States and Venezuela. The teams will be broken up into two pools -as per IWBF standards – compete in three round robin games and move on to the quarter-final round, semi-finals and eventual medal games. There will be additional placement games for 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th place.
Competition Venue
All games and practice will take place at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Officially opened in December 2008, the Oval was built for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. The facility measures a vast 512,000 square feet and includes a full size speed skating track, four basketball courts, and fitness centre.

The host hotel for the duration of the event will be the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel previously known as the Best Western Richmond Inn. Located just 1.5km from the Richmond Oval and 7km from the Vancouver International Airport it is prime location.
All athletes, coaches, delegates and support staff will be housed at the newly renovated hotel. All meals, meetings and banquets will also be housed in the Hotel Conference Centre.
Available to all the guests of the Sheraton, is a free shuttle service to and from the Vancouver airport, heated outdoor pool and hot tub, internet access and fitness centre.

Teams – All accommodations will be made by Wheelchair Basketball Canada upon completion of the registration package. If your team requires changes to rooming lists please contact Wheelchair Basketball Canada directly.
IWBF delegates & ITO’s - All accommodations will be made by Wheelchair Basketball Canada upon confirmation from IWBF. If you have special requirements or request please contact Wheelchair Basketball Canada directly.
Wheelchair Basketball Canada AGM Participants – All accommodations will be made by Wheelchair Basketball Canada upon your request. Costs will be covered by Wheelchair Basketball Canada for one hotel room (double occupancy) for two nights stay. All members are welcome to arrive earlier and stay later.
Fans, Supporters and
Basketball Enthusiasts – Rooms are currently blocked at a reduced rate
for the America’s Cup. You will need to contact the hotel directly and
ask for the “BC Wheelchair Basketball” rate.
Food Services
All meals provided for team members, ITO’s
and delegates will be provided at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in the
Minoru Ballroom. Meal times are as
follows;
Breakfast 7:00 – 10:00
Lunch 11:00 – 14:00
Dinner 18:30 – 22:00
Transportation
The destination airport for arrivals will be the Vancouver
International Airport (YVR). Just 7km from the host hotel, YVR is in
an ideal location.

Teams – All local transportation will be the responsibility of the Host Committee. Airport pick-ups and drop-offs will be scheduled prior to your departure from your respective countries. Given the distance from the host hotel and the competition venue, transportation will not be required but will be available upon request.

Doping Control
As per IWBF regulations Doping Control will be onsite during the event. Doping Control will be performed by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports (CCES) authorized by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
