Bridging the Gap
Bridging the Gap is a national program aimed at helping individuals with a disability reintegrate into the community and regain their motivation, inspiration, independence and confidence through physical activity.
The primary goal of Bridging the Gap is to eliminate the gap between the introduction of sport and recreation in the rehabilitation setting and continued involvement in physical activity.
The program accomplishes this by hosting Have-a-Go Days and evenings that provide opportunities for individuals to experience a variety of wheelchair sports in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Current wheelchair athletes volunteer their time to demonstrate the sports and to let participants know about clinics and programs that are available to them.
Developmental programs are in place so that individuals can continue to learn and to play the sport of their choice.
Each province might be different in what programs they offer but, Bridging the Gap, Getting Physically Active is a program specifically designed to help you become aware of the sport and recreation options available, and to try out wheelchair sports of your choice. The program currently promotes and supports Rugby, Basketball, Tennis, and Athletics.
Whatever wheelchair sport you decide to participate in, Bridging the Gap (BTG) is designed to help you get involved and stay involved.
