2008-2009 Special Funding Project Update

In September 2008, New Brunswick Wheelchair Sports Association applied for $1000.00 from Wheelchair Basketball Canada to train referees in their area.

In February 2009, Nova Scotia Wheelchair Basketball Society with the assistance of Wheelchair Basketball Canada hosted an officials training clinic.  This clinic enabled Wheelchair Basketball Canada to satisfy Canada Games requirements as well as deepen the pool of officials in this country, particularly the Maritimes.   New Brunswick was able to send three officials to the clinic, one of whom was given the CWBL Open Finals assignment just one month later.

In 2008 Clary Stubbert applied for Special Project Funding to recruit for Wheelchair Basketball in an untapped area he believed to have major potential - Antigonish.  He used the funds for gym time and basketball purchases for demonstrations and community events.

In 2009 the Antigonish Highland Hawks entered the Maritime Wheelchair Basketball Association and are scheduled to play a full season.    This season Clary and the Highland Hawks have again applied for funding for recruitment and awareness as they head into the Universities looking for athletes, officials and volunteers.
