The London 2012 Paralympic Summer Games will be the biggest Paralympics yet, featuring 20 sports - including wheelchair basketball - to be contested by athletes from 163 competing nations. The Paralympics are an elite sport event for world-class athletes with a physical disability.

Wheelchair basketball is one of the most competitive, dynamic sports contested at the Paralympic Summer Games. The sport has been a part of the Paralympic programme since the first official Games in Rome in 1960. The women's competition joined the programme at the Games in Tel Aviv in 1968.
