About Us

The Objectives of the Hall of Fame Program are to:  

• To recognize, honour and pay tribute to Canadian individuals and teams who have attained extraordinary achievement in the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada and/or internationally.
• To recognize, honour and pay tribute to those Canadian individuals who have given distinguished service and who have made a major contribution to the development and advancement of the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada or internationally.
• To encourage the development of all aspects of the sport of wheelchair basketball by permanently recording the achievements and history of the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada.
• To carry out these objectives by establishing and maintaining an official archives for wheelchair basketball and thereby giving public prominence to the achievement of individuals and teams in and for the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria:

Any individual who has been a resident of Canada for a minimum period of five years, or is a Canadian citizen, and has made an outstanding contribution to wheelchair basketball in Canada, at the local, provincial, national or international level, shall be eligible for nomination for election to the Hall of Fame.

Athlete candidates shall be chosen on the basis of their playing ability, sportsmanship, character, and extraordinary distinction in the sport of wheelchair basketball respective to physical classification. Athlete nominees shall not be considered until three years after they have retired from major championship competition.

Coaches and Officials shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada, locally, provincially or nationally and/or internationally. These nominees shall be either retired from the position they are being nominated in and shall have served in excess of 10 years in the respective position to which they are being nominated.

Builders shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada, locally, provincially or nationally and/or internationally. These nominees may be either active or inactive at the time of their consideration.

Team candidates shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of the sport of wheelchair basketball in Canada, locally, provincially or nationally and/or internationally. National teams are automatically inducted into the Hall of Fame if they have won a gold medal at either the Men’s, Women’s or Junior World Championships or Paralympic Games.

Special circumstances to be considered on a case by case basis by Hall of Fame Committee.

Nomination Procedure:

The Board of Directors of Wheelchair Basketball Canada shall have the right to submit nominees for election to the Hall of Fame.

• Any member in good standing with Wheelchair Basketball Canada shall have the right to submit nominees for election to the Hall of Fame.
• Any citizen of Canada shall have the right to nominate another individual for the Hall of Fame provided that the nomination receives the signed approval of either the Board of Directors of Wheelchair Basketball Canada or a member in good standing of Wheelchair Basketball Canada prior to the submission to the Hall of Fame Committee.
• All nominations shall be in writing and shall contain a complete record of the merits and achievement of each candidate.
• Nominations may be submitted to the National Office. The Wheelchair Basketball Canada Hall of Fame Committee shall notify the membership of the call for nominations each year. The Committee shall attempt to ensure adequate notice of the time lines involved to ensure that candidates are included in the deliberations. Nominations received after the deadline will be retained and considered in the next call.
