Dave Durepos named 2012 Male Athlete of the Year by Sport NB

Dave Durepos(Fredericton, NB) Team Canada’s Dave Durepos was named the 2012 Male Athlete of the Year by Sport NB at the 19th Annual Pitney Bowes Sport Awards on Saturday in Fredericton, NB.

Durepos captured his third Paralympic gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in September. He has been a member of the Canadian men’s wheelchair basketball team since 1994. He captained Team Canada to its first Paralympic gold medal in 2000, becoming the first-ever athlete to bring home an Olympic or Paralympic gold medal for the province of New Brunswick.

The annual Pitney Bowes Sport Awards recognize the accomplishments and contributions of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in the province of New Brunswick.

“Over the past year each of the nominees has done New Brunswick very proud,” said Darcy McKillop, executive director of Sport NB. “These are the types of people who inspire others to be great, and help see the value in sport participation. New Brunswickers can be very proud of these individuals”.
