Sr. Men Undefeated After Day 1 at 2012 Continental Clash Tournament

With two wins in two opportunities, the Sr. Men’s wheelchair basketball team flexed their muscles early and often during Day #1 of the Continental Clash tournament in Worcester, England.

The opening match of the tournament had Canada pitted against Spain, with the Canucks defeating the European side 77-49. After jumping to 26-11 first quarter lead, the Canadians never looked back, dominating the Spaniards en route to a comfortable victory. Pat Anderson‘s 23 points and 9 rebounds led all players, while David Eng added 12 points and Dave Durepos chipped in with 11. Canada also played a solid defensive game, only allowing one opposing player to reach double-digits in scoring.

Later that afternoon, Canada returned to the court to take on their hosts, Great Britain, with Canada picking up where they left off after their morning game. Despite the backing of the crowd, the Brits fell behind early, with Canada leading 25-9 after one quarter of play. Canada would never relinquish the lead, and cruised to a 78-46 victory. Canada had four players reach double-digits in scoring: Pat Anderson dropped 20, Richard Peter sunk 12, Dave Durepos hit 11 after going 3/3 from behind the 3-point line, and Bo Hedges added 10. Similar to Game #1, only one opposing player managed to score more than 10 points against the defensively-tough Canadians.

Monday will see Canada take on the Great Britain B-Team in the morning match, and face off against Spain in the afternoon, as the Canucks look to improve on their dominant 2-0 tournament record.
