Team Canada’s Tyler Miller Wins 2012 Civitan Sports Award

Tyler Miller(Kitchener, Ont.) Paralympic gold medallist Tyler Miller of the Canadian men’s wheelchair basketball was named the winner of the 2012 Civitan Sports Award at a ceremony in Kitchener on Tuesday evening.

The annual Civitan Sports Award honours the top athlete in the region of Kitchener-Waterloo.

Miller, a native of Kitchener, captured a gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games as a member of Team Canada and delivered a breakout performance in his first Paralympics.

The other Civitan nominees were local athletes Chelsea Aubry (basketball), Maddie Buttinger (pentathlon), Kory Lorentz (amputee hockey), Dustin Miller (speed skating), Garrett Rank (golf), Leah Robinson (track and field) and Mark Scheifele (hockey).
