Biography:

Philippe Vermette first got introduced to wheelchair basketball during rehab. He began playing for a club team in his hometown and after three years of hard training, he cracked the Junior National Team roster in 2009. He says the opportunity to represent Canada means a lot to him.

In 2013, he helped lead the junior team to a first-place finish at the Men’s U23 Americas Zone Qualification Tournament in Mexico City, Mexico, qualifying the juniors for the 2013 U23 World Championship in Adana, Turkey.

Vermette made the Senior Men’s National Team roster for the first time in 2014.

When not training with Team Canada, Vermette trains with his current club team at the University of Illinois, where he goes to school. He has also represented Team Quebec on numerous occasions, including a first-place finish at the 2011 Canada Games.

Vermette says he enjoys meeting people and likes the camaraderie aspect of wheelchair basketball. He describes his role on the court as a point guard, opening up scoring opportunities for his fellow teammates and taking opportunities himself when they arise.

In his free time, Vermette enjoys travelling.
