Grosso Hooper Law Champions the Growth of Women’s Game Through Partnership Extension with Wheelchair Basketball Canada

(HAMILTON, ONT.) Grosso Hooper Law (GH Law) and Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) are pleased to announce a renewed partnership that sees the Hamilton-based personal injury law firm continue as the official legal partner of WBC through to 2022. Under the terms of the renewed agreement, GH Law extends its support of women’s wheelchair basketball in Canada from grassroots to high performance. The partnership will include activations centered around the themes of development, high performance, and celebration of female athletes.

“As proud sponsor of the Canadian Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team, Grosso Hooper Law shares the team’s passion and drive to win, but most importantly, our continuing relationship gives us valuable insights to help clients deal with and adjust to physical or emotional adversity as a result of their injury. These athletes offer real life inspiration because they’ve shown it is possible to overcome the challenges they’ve faced, and to excel at the highest levels. Wheelchair Basketball Canada enables them to grow as athletes and as individuals,” said GH Law President Robert Hooper.

“As an organization who fights to make a difference in the lives of their clients and their clients’ families every day, Grosso Hooper Law truly understand the value of enabling more Canadians to experience the life-changing impact of wheelchair basketball. We are honoured to continue to work with a revered partner who shares in our commitment to growing the women’s game and to delivering excellence at all levels. Canadian female athletes of all abilities will benefit greatly from the enhanced opportunities to grow within the sport,” said WBC Executive Director Wendy Gittens.

GH Law first joined forces with WBC in 2016 as an official partner of the Canadian Women’s National Team program. For the next three years they will continue to champion high performance sport by supporting the top female wheelchair basketball athletes in the country who represent Canada at international competition.

“We are grateful to Grosso Hooper Law for their support and commitment to our program as we train and compete for Canada at the highest levels in our sport,” said Canadian Women’s National Team player Cindy Ouellet. “We are excited to see what we can accomplish together with Team Canada while inspiring future generations of women and girls in the sport.”

In Canada less than one-third (31.5%) of registered wheelchair basketball athletes are female. To help improve that stat and help get more females playing the game GH Law broadens its support to include the development and celebration of the women’s game at local, provincial and national levels. GH Law and WBC will invest annually in women’s grassroots development initiatives through WBC’s annual granting program known as ‘Special Project Funding’. GH Law also becomes an official partner of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Women’s National Championships and WBC’s Annual Awards, where they will help celebrate the women’s game by recognizing key performances as the presenting partner of the tournament all-star and most valuable player awards, as well as the female athlete of the year award.
