Wheelchair Basketball Canada Seeks Interns in High Performance and Court Operations for Winter 2020

Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is seeking two dynamic, detail-oriented, and passionate individuals to join our high performance team in the roles of High Performance Intern and On-Court Operations Intern. The roles are suited for energetic team players with an interest in amateur sport, preferably with sport management education and/or experience. These positions are for a 15-week period beginning in January 2020.

The High Performance Intern position is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the successful candidate to gain valuable experience in event and sport management. The High Performance Intern will report to the High Performance Coordinator.

The On-Court Operations Intern will assist in the daily operations of the National Academy (NextGen) program and other operations at the National Training Centre. The On-Court Operations Intern will report to the National Academy Director.

Please note, you must be enrolled in a program where an internship is required as part of course curriculum to be considered.


Responsibilities

High Performance Intern
  • Assist in the daily operation of the Wheelchair Basketball Canada office;
  • Provide support to the High Performance Coordinator and the High Performance Operations Assistant with the implementation of the high performance plan, including scheduling and resource requirements;
  • Assist with logistics for all of the National Team programs, including travel, accommodation, ground transportation, camps, competitions and on-site athlete support services;
  • Assist with on-court operations as directed by the National Academy Director;
  • Assist with logistical support for planning and execution of special events taking place at the National Training Centre;
  • Assist with an inventory and maintenance program for all high performance clothing, equipment and supplies;
  • Other duties as required.
On-Court Operations Intern
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Wheelchair Basketball Canada office;
  • Provide support to National Academy Director and Coaches with the implementation of the high performance plan, including scheduling and other resource requirements;
  • Assist with on-court operations as directed by the National Academy Director;
  • Work in partnership with the High Performance Operations Assistant to organize and prepare daily operational and logistic needs for the National Academy program and other National Training Centre operations;
  • Working with the Coaches and Performance Analyst on video taping of specific practices and simulated games and individual workouts;
  • Assist in accumulating player and team data;
  • Other duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities

The interns shall also undertake other tasks, activities and responsibilities as he/she deems to be appropriate to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, and as agreed to by the High Performance Coordinator.

All employees must be aware that as an employee of the Wheelchair Basketball Canada, he/she is an ambassador of the association to the Wheelchair Basketball Canada membership, and to the national and international sport community and must represent the association in a professional and appropriate manner at all times.

Qualifications

  • Experience in sport management, business management, event planning, or a related field;
  • Enrolled in a program where an internship is required as part of course curriculum;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, time management and problem solving skills;
  • Proficiency with computers, technology and Microsoft Office required;
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Oral and written fluency in both official languages is considered an asset;
  • A passion for sport is a must;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Terms of Contract

  • 4-month contract positions (January to April 2020);
  • Unpaid internships (work related expenses will be covered);
  • Located at the WBC National Training Centre in Toronto;
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a program where an internship is required as part of course curriculum to be considered.
