United States and Great Britain Claim Victories in Opening Night of 2016 Toronto Challenge

052716-Day1TOChallenge-webframeThe Canadian senior men’s national team welcomed rivals from Great Britain, Turkey and the United States for a series of exhibition games at the Toronto Challenge. The action began Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

In the opening match of the series Great Britain emerged victorious 62-54 against Turkey. Turkish player Osgar Gurbulak tallied the game high of 22 points, while Terry Bywater led Great Britain with 15 points.

Team USA also claimed a decisive victory, winning 83-38 against the Canadians. Josh Turek led all American players with 23 points. Nik Goncin countered with 12 points for Canada.

Canada will face Turkey in its next game at 6:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, while Great Britain and the United States will square off at 8:15 p.m. ET. Action continues through to Tuesday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. All games are open to the public.
