Next Gen Camps

Throughout the year, Wheelchair Basketball Canada will host a series of talent identification camps that feature on-court training, strength and conditioning sessions, and information sessions. These camps are designed to evaluate wheelchair basketball athletes that have potential to be part of our Next Gen programs and have National Team potential.

U23 Men / U25 Women Invitation Camp

This camp is designed for male (under 23 years old) and female (under 25 years old) athletes who demonstrate the potential to join the National Team program in the future. Attendance at this camp is by invitation only. Invitations for this camp are coordinated through the U23 Men’s National Team head coach and the U25 Women’s National Team head coach. Athletes interested in this camp should discuss their involvement with the appropriate head coach. This camp takes place once per year at the National Training Centre (NTC) in conjunction with the Late Entry Camp.

Late Entry Camp

Élodie TessierThis open camp is designed for late entry athletes who are interested in possible future National Team program involvement. This camp is designed to provide a combination of fundamental skill development or advanced skill development depending on the needs of the athlete. This camp is designed to provide the necessary skills so that athlete can choose to pursue either a recreational path or competitive path in wheelchair basketball.

Typically, athletes are between the ages of 19 and 28, but the design of the camp is such that all late entry athletes can be considered. For more information on this camp, reach out to Mike Frogley, National Academy Director and Head Coach.

WBC Provincial High-Performance Development Camps

These camps are organized and led by WBC National Team Program coaches in each province once a year. Athletes are invited by their respective province and evaluated during the camp using the WBC Gold Medal Profile (GMP) measures. WBC develops the curriculum and runs the camp with our provincial/club partners. For more information on this camp, reach out to Mike Frogley, National Academy Director and Head Coach.
