Team Canada set to compete at the Americas Championship in Bogotá

Men’s U23 team needs a Top 2 finish to qualify for Worlds

Team Canada’s Under-23 squad is gearing up for the 2025 IWBF Men’s U23 Americas Championship in Bogotá, Colombia, with their sights set on securing a spot at the IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship.

Canada will face Brazil, Colombia, and the United States at the Unidad Deportiva El Salitre from April 2-5, 2025, vying for one of two qualification spots for the U23 World Championship, set for June in São Paulo, Brazil.

Team Canada’s U23 roster includes eight athletes who represented the country at the Kitakyushu Champions Cup last November. Matthew Wilton is the sole returning player from the 2022 IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship in Phuket, Thailand.

“Everyone is excited for the opportunity to compete for one of two spots in the Americas Zone for the World Championships in June,” said head coach Darrell Nordell. “The international experience some of the athletes had in Japan at the Kitakyushu Cup has helped prepare for the competition they will see in Colombia.  Many athletes competing on our U23 team will continue their pathway with more opportunities on our Senior Men’s National Team in future.”

With Brazil already having automatic qualification as the U23 World Championship host, two coveted spots for the U23 Worlds are on the line in Bogotá.
