ParaSport and Recreation PEI to host Junior East Championship

Tournament runs April 4-6 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre at UPEI

The top junior wheelchair basketball athletes from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec will compete in the Junior East Championship at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre in Charlottetown, PEI, from April 4-6, 2025.

The Junior East Championship is an inclusive tournament, bringing together athletes with and without disabilities to compete.

This 4×4 event, sanctioned by Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) and presented by ParaSport and Recreation PEI, marks the second competition in the 2027 Canada Games cycle. Quebec City will host the 2027 Canada Winter Games from February 27 to March 14, 2027.

The event tips off with a Development Camp on Friday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ADT. Led by NextGen Player Development and Recruitment Coordinator Jesse McNalley, the camp is free and open to athletes aged 24 and under (as of December 31, 2027).

Fans and media are welcome to attend the tournament and experience the excitement firsthand. Media can capture game action and conduct post-game interviews with athletes and coaches. The competition will culminate with the gold medal game on April 6 at 11:00 a.m. ADT.

What: 2025 Junior East Championship

Provincial teams, including athletes from Prince Edward Island, compete for the Junior East Championship. The 4×4 tournament is the second step in the Canada Games cycle.
