National initiative showcases events across Canada to grow awareness, participation and support for the sport
OTTAWA, ONT. – Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) will host the fourth annual Wheelchair Basketball Week, from Sept. 22–28, 2025.
In partnership with our Provincial Sport Organizations and community clubs, Wheelchair Basketball Week will feature 55 events across 10 provinces, welcoming more than 1,500 participants.
Individuals of all abilities, including those who are fully able-bodied, are invited to participate in free events throughout the week, designed to engage communities, inspire new participants and celebrate the sport from coast to coast.
“We are excited to partner with our provincial organizations and club programs for Wheelchair Basketball Week,” said Wendy Gittens, CEO of Wheelchair Basketball Canada. “This week-long initiative brings the community together to raise awareness, spark participation and celebrate our sport as we look ahead to hosting the Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships.”
A complete list of Wheelchair Basketball Week events can be found here.
As part of the week’s programming, WBC will host events at Carleton University (Sept. 23) and Algonquin College (Sept. 25). Media wishing to attend WBC-hosted Wheelchair Basketball Week events are asked to RSVP to Caroline Soble at csoble@wheelchairbasketball.ca
