In the men’s division, Ontario is the lone 2-0 team
(RICHMOND, B.C.) – British Columbia and Quebec remained unbeaten in the women’s division after Friday’s action at the 2026 National Championships at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond, B.C.
British Columbia opened Day 1 with a 55-22 victory over the Rest of Canada before earning a 65-40 win over Ontario in Friday afternoon’s Feature Game.
“This was the first time our team has ever played together, and I think after the first quarter we were really able to pull it together,” said Elise Froese. “It’s been fun to see how our communication and our talk in between games really helped in our second game.”
Defending champions Quebec opened the tournament with a 38-25 victory over Ontario before cruising to a 63-19 win against the Rest of Canada.
“We followed the game plan, and it’s been pretty great so far for Team Quebec,” said Elodie Tessier. “We definitely want to come out strong on Saturday and execute the game plan our coaches have.
“Tonight is about recovery and then on to the next games tomorrow.”
In the men’s division, Ontario remains the only undefeated team following Friday’s action.
The defending champions opened the tournament with a 63-42 victory over Saskatchewan before closing out the day with a commanding 66-40 win against Alberta.
“It’s where we wanted to be,” said Tyler Miller. “We know what we’re capable of, and right now we’re playing to that. We just have to keep going out there and playing our game.
“For Nationals, it’s always a big group of guys who play against each other, so we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and I think that really comes into play here to be an advantage.”
Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec all sit at 1-1 in the men’s division following the opening day of competition.
The 2026 National Championships resume on Saturday at the Richmond Olympic Oval with Ontario facing the Rest of Canada in women’s Division action and British Columbia meeting Saskatchewan in men’s action – both games tip off at 8:30 a.m. PDT.
