(Richmond, B.C.) The B.C. Breakers and the Edmonton Inferno will collide in the gold medal match at the 2014 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Women’s National Championship at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond, B.C.
Quebec and the Calgary Rollers will meet in the bronze medal game at 9:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, with the championship game set to follow at 11:45 a.m. PT. Both games will webcast live at www.viasport.ca.
The hometown B.C. Breakers (3-1) defeated Quebec (2-1) by a score of 81-70 in the semi-finals to earn a berth to the gold medal match. Janet McLachlan, of Vancouver, B.C., was the top offensive producer for the Breakers with 30 points while Cindy Ouellet, of Quebec City, Que., countered with 34 points for the Quebec side.
The defending-champion Edmonton Inferno (3-0) toppled the Calgary Rollers 64-42 in the other semi-final game. Kylee Evjen, of Stony Plain, Alta. fuelled the balanced offensive attack for the Inferno with 15 points. Jessica Forgeron, of Calgary, Alta., led all Rollers players with 11 points.
The B.C. Breakers paved their way into the semi-final tilt against Quebec thanks to a 62-32 win over Ontario earlier on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Calgary Rollers (2-2) defeated Saskatchewan 62-58 to set up the battle of Alberta against the Edmonton Inferno in the other semi-final game.
Ontario (1-3) went on to place fifth at the tournament after defeating Saskatchewan (0-4) by a score of 52-30. Saskatchewan concluded the tournament in sixth place.
The 2014 CWBL Women’s National Championship is co-hosted by Wheelchair Basketball Canada and the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society.

The Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) was founded in 1986 and has two primary divisions: the Open division and the Women’s division.
