BC, Quebec, undefeated on Day 1 at 2024 CWBL Women’s National Championship 

Quebec, the reigning champion, defeated the Mixed Team 66-19 to cap Friday’s action

(OTTAWA, ONT.) – Team BC opened the 2024 CWBL Women’s National Championship by defeating the Mixed Team of athletes 52-27 on Friday afternoon at College la Cité.

Lanette Boland paced BC with 12 points. Elise Froese added 10 points and six rebounds, while Tara Llanes and Kim Boland each chipped in eight points in the victory. Desiree Isaac-Pictou and Anne-Marie Giguere led the Mixed team with 11 points each.

BC followed up their tournament-opening victory with a 47-32 win over the host Team Ontario. Lanette Boland had a game-high 11, while Llanes and Froese each contributed 10 points in the victory. Danielle Duplessis led Ontario with 10, and Tamara Steeves added six.

Quebec defeated the Mixed team 66-19 to conclude Friday’s action. Rosalie Lalonde had a game-high 16 points and six assists. Manolita Monzo, Megane Murphy and Mia Tremblay each had eight points in the win. Isaac-Pictou had a team-high 11 points for the Mixed team.

The CWBL Women’s National Championship brings together women and girls nationwide to compete for the national title, celebrate female leaders, and connect with an inclusive, supportive sport community. Since its inception in 1990, Wheelchair Basketball Canada has championed this event, leaving a lasting legacy on and off the court and inspiring current, future, and past Paralympians.

The action continues on Saturday, when Ontario and Quebec tip off at 8 a.m. The full schedule and results can be found here.

The 5-on-5 portion of the tournament will be live-streamed on the WBC YouTube channel on Saturday. RogersTV Ottawa will air the third-place and gold medal games on Sunday. The event is governed and presented by Wheelchair Basketball Canada.
