BC Wheelchair Basketball Society Announces Team For 2014 Junior National Championship

(Vancouver, B.C.) Congratulations to the 11 athletes selected to represent British Columbia at the 2014 Junior Wheelchair Basketball National Championships from March 28-30 in Edmonton, Alta. The Junior National Championship is an important step for the team towards the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C.

Team B.C. contains a mix of veteran and up-and-coming athletes, and is anchored by Prince George’s own Avril Harris. Harris, who is the son of long-time wheelchair sports athlete Pat Harris and disability advocate Nancy Harris, is known for his speed and athleticism. He’ll be joined by junior national team athletes Jack Kosterman (Langley, B.C.) and Aidan Love (Victoria, B.C.).

“The athletes on this year’s junior provincial team have a diverse set of skills,” said Coach Marni Abbott-Peter. “We’re looking forward to building towards the 2015 Canada Winter Games.”

The team roster consists of:

  • Riley Martin (Oliver, B.C.)
  • Ben Garrett (Abbotsford, B.C.)
  • Ben Hagkull (Chilliwack, B.C.)
  • Alec Kendall (Kelowna, B.C.)
  • Ben Hamilton (Surrey, B.C.)
  • Paula Higgins (Delta, B.C.)
  • Leanne Kelly (Richmond, B.C.)
  • Jack Kosterman (Langley, B.C.)
  • Avril Harris (Prince George, B.C.)
