Team Canada will compete in Group A at the Sports Complex of the Prince of Songkla University

The Canadian Men’s Under-23 wheelchair basketball team will tip off at the IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship beginning Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Sports Complex of the Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus in Phuket, Thailand.

The tournament will feature 12 countries and see Team Canada compete in Group A against Brazil, Spain, Turkey, France, and Japan. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage.

Canada begins play at 5:30 a.m. ET against Brazil on Sept. 7 and plays Spain on Sept. 9 at 5:15 a.m. ET. The Canadians then tip-off against Japan on Sept. 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET before meeting Turkey at 12:45 a.m. ET on Sept. 12. Canada wraps up the group play on Sept. 13 at 3:00 a.m. ET against France.

The playoff round begins at 10:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship is typically held every four years, with 12 countries participating. This year’s tournament will be the seventh edition of the event. It is the first U23 tournament since 2017, which Toronto hosted, and Great Britain won.

To be eligible to participate, male players must be born on or after Jan. 1, 1999. The IWBF is maintaining the same age category as if the event was held in 2021 to ensure athletes wouldn’t lose their eligibility due to the postponement of last year’s tournament.
