The Canadian Women concluded their Pool Round play with a 13-8 victory over England on Sunday at the Commonwealth Games.

Tamara Steeves had a game-high seven points on 6 of 7 shooting in the win.

“I got open because my teammates got me open,” said Steeves. “They were double-teaming Kady Dandeneau early, which set me up for high-percentage shots on my layups. I was mostly consistent on my layups today, so I think that worked in our favour, and we came out with the win.”

Dandeneau added five points and nine rebounds.

“England is such a tough competitor,” Dandeneau said. “We know these guys, we’ve played against them before, we know how talented they are, so we weren’t coming in taking anything for granted. We just wanted to come out hard and be aggressive.”

Team Canada now awaits the Pool Round play’s conclusion to determine their semifinal opponent. The Canadian women will play in the 11 a.m. ET semifinal on Monday.

“I think we just have to focus on what we do well, and we’ll be successful,” said Steeves.

Added Dandeneau: “We definitely like the spot we’re in and where we’ve got ourselves to, but we’re not taking anything for granted. Every team that we compete against – we come out like we’re playing a gold medal match.”
