Gladiateurs, Tigers to meet in final at CWBL National Championship

Manitoba, CIVA to play in bronze medal game

(Richmond, B.C.) – The Gladiateurs de Laval (GLADS) and Scarborough Tigers will meet in the gold medal game at the 2023 CWBL National Championship on Monday afternoon at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The game is a rematch of the 2022 gold medal game, which Scarborough won 70-57 in Montreal. Before 2022, the GLADS won three consecutive national championships.

The GLADS punched their ticket to the gold medal game with an 80-60 victory over Manitoba. Cindy Ouellet had a game-high 29 points, while Carl Pelletier added 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Reed De’Aeth paced Manitoba with 25 points.

The GLADS opened Day 2 with a 74-60 victory over the Calgary Rollers. The GLADS were led by Pelletier, who scored a team-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. Ouellet contributed 21 points in the win. Nik Goncin of the Rollers scored 36 points and 16 rebounds in the loss.

Scarborough earned a berth in the gold medal game with a 73-59 over Centre d’Integration a la vie active (CIVA). Jesse McNally scored 29 points and 17 rebounds, while Bo Hedges chipped in 25 points to lead the Tigers.

The Tigers defeated the BC Grizzlies 71-63 earlier Sunday to earn a spot in the semifinals. McNally had a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds. Hedges added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Ben Hagkull chipped in 14 points.

On Sunday, Saskatchewan took the top spot in the inaugural 3×3 competition at the CWBL National Championship.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada and BC Wheelchair Basketball Society co-host the three-day tournament. It features the top club teams in the country competing for the title of national champions at the Richmond Olympic Oval. The competition resumes on Monday at 9 a.m. PT.
