Hoopfest Wheelchair Basketball Fundraiser Returns November 22

  • Hoopfest 2018 set for November 22 at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre
  • 3-time Paralympic champion Tracey Ferguson named honorary chair
  • Funds raised support Canadians living with a disability to experience the life-changing benefits of wheelchair basketball

(Toronto, Ont.) Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s signature fundraising event is back with one month to go until Hoopfest 2018. Hoopfest, presented by Toyota Canada, will take place November 22, 2018 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre with up to 16 participating teams going head-to-head in this fun and completely inclusive 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament.

The half day corporate challenge builds team spirit and allows corporate and community teams to enjoy the thrill of wheelchair basketball and interact with Team Canada athletes, all while raising funds to enable more Canadians to experience the life-changing benefits of the sport.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to announce three-time Paralympic gold medalist and four-time World Champion, Tracey Ferguson, as the Honorary Chair for Hoopfest 2018.

“Growing up, I had so many opportunities that came about through playing basketball,” says Ferguson. “What I maybe did not realize at the time, is that those opportunities were made possible by players, volunteers and staff that came before me doing outreach with the corporate community and raising the funds for the youth programs and camps that I took part in. Being involved in Hoopfest is my way of giving back and helping to create opportunities for the next generation of wheelchair basketball players.”

Teams of 4-6 players can register now at wheelchairbasketball.ca/hoopfest. The team registration fee is $1,500. All funds raised will support opportunities for Canadians living with a disability to play wheelchair basketball.

“Wheelchair basketball is fun!” says Ferguson. “It is a sport that anyone can play and find a place to belong.”
