Hoopfest Ottawa, proudly presented by Toyota Canada, raises $15,000 to support 2026 World Championships

Tangible Words won the 3×3 challenge at Collège La Cité on Thursday

Hoopfest Ottawa, proudly presented by Toyota Canada, tipped off on Thursday at Collège La Cité with an exciting 3×3 showdown, where Tangible Words emerged victorious.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s signature fundraising event raised $15,000 in support of the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, which Ottawa will host from Sept. 9-19.

“On behalf of WBC, I’d like to sincerely thank all the participants at Hoopfest Ottawa, as well as our partners, including our presenting sponsor, Toyota Canada, for their incredible support,” said Wendy Gittens, WBC CEO. “The funds raised will contribute to ensuring the successful execution of the World Championships.”

Tangible Words defeated OMS 8-6 in the tightly contested final game to take home gold, while Tony Graham Toyota topped Desjardins 9-7 in the bronze medal game.

Eleven teams competed in Hoopfest Ottawa, including Tony Graham Toyota, Tangible Words, Rogers Centre Ottawa, Lépine Apartments, the Senators Community Foundation, Ottawa Tourism, BDO Canada, Desjardins, the Ottawa BlackJacks, OMS, and First Lake Solutions.

Hoopfest is a half-day challenge designed to foster team spirit. Corporate and community groups come together to compete in a fun and inclusive 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament. Hoopfest raises essential funds to help more Canadians experience the life-changing impact of wheelchair basketball while shining a spotlight on the sport and its incredible athletes.
