Hoopfest presented by Toyota Canada surpasses $100,000 raised in support of grassroots wheelchair basketball in Canada

Ottawa event at Carleton University Raven’s Nest raised more than $12,000 on Thursday

Hoopfest, presented by Toyota Canada, Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s signature fundraising event, has raised more than $100,000 in support of grassroots wheelchair basketball programs across Canada thanks to the more than $12,000 raised at the Ottawa Hoopfest event on Thursday.

Getit Technologies won the 3-on-3 tournament at Carleton University Raven’s Nest.

“On behalf of Wheelchair Basketball Canada, I would like to thank the 10 teams that participated in our Hoopfest event at Carleton University,” said Wheelchair Basketball Canada Executive Director Wendy Gittens. “I would also like to thank our presenting sponsor, Toyota Canada, for their continued support. The funds raised will go a long way in helping us reach our goals of providing world-class training opportunities and supporting grassroots programs.”

Getit Technologies defeated Westin 10-7 to win gold on Thursday, while Tony Graham Toyota took home bronze, defeating Shaun Kehoe Fitness 12-9.

Hoopfest is a half-day challenge that builds team spirit as corporate and community teams enjoy the thrill of competing in a fun and completely inclusive 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament. The event aims to raise funds that enable more Canadians to experience the life-changing impact of wheelchair basketball while bringing awareness to the sport and the athletes.
