Ottawa Invitational brings four nations to Canada’s capital ahead of World Championships

Senior Women’s National Team to play host to Brazil, Japan and the United States 

(OTTAWA, Ont.) – Wheelchair Basketball Canada and the Senior Women’s National Team will welcome three of the world’s top women’s wheelchair basketball nations to the Ottawa Invitational, taking place June 25-28.

The four-day tournament will feature Team Canada competing against national teams from Brazil, Japan and the United States in a series of exhibition games as all four nations continue preparations for the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, scheduled for September 9-19 in Ottawa.

Eight of the 10 games will be played at the Algonquin College ARC (1385 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa ON, K2G 1V8) and are free and open to the public.

The Ottawa Invitational will give fans the opportunity to witness world-class wheelchair basketball and see some of the sport’s top athletes compete on the international stage. With the World Championships less than three months away.

Competition begins on Thursday, June 25, with Japan opening tournament play against the United States at 9:00 a.m. EDT. The round-robin schedule will continue throughout the week before concluding with the championship game on Sunday, June 28, at 4:45 p.m. EDT.

Fans attending the Ottawa Invitational can expect a showcase of elite athleticism, speed, skill and intensity as four of the world’s top programs battle for international bragging rights ahead of September’s World Championships.
