Team Canada roster change announced for 2014 Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship

(Ottawa, Ont.) Wheelchair Basketball Canada announced today that Arinn Young has been named to the Canadian Senior Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team for the 2014 Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship coming to the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ont. from June 20-28. Young is replacing Erica Gavel, who is unable to compete due to injury.

Young, a native of Legal, Alta., plays for the Edmonton Inferno club team, whom she helped lead to a women’s national club championship in 2013. At 17 years old, she is the youngest member of the Senior Women’s National Team.

The 2014 Women’s World Championship will be the largest women’s world championship in history featuring the top 12 teams in the world. Host Canada is the defending bronze medallist and will be competing for a seventh consecutive podium finish.

Canada will open the tournament on June 20 against Japan at 1 p.m. ET.
