Team Ontario Black captures gold at the 2025 Junior East Championship

Simon Mazi-Keep paced Ontario Black in the winning effort

Team Ontario Black edged out Team Ontario Red in an all-Ontario final, securing a 36–31 victory at the 2025 Junior East Championship on Sunday at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre in Charlottetown, PEI.

Simon Mazi-Keep led the charge for Ontario Black with a game-high 25 points, while Tyler Bickford added six in the winning effort.

“It was a great team win for us,” said Ontario Black head coach, Josh Davies. “We went through some adversity early in the tournament, losing a game to Quebec and then we learned from that, we regrouped and we took all our lessons into this game, we played a solid team game.”

Tournament MVP Desmond O’Shaughnessy, the Junior East Championship’s leading scorer, paced Ontario Red with 24 points in the gold medal game, while Tayler O’Shaughnessy added seven.

“Really proud of our Ontario program as a whole, having both of our Ontario Red and Ontario Black teams in the gold medal game,” Davies added. “Our program has shown a lot of growth and we’re just looking forward to working in the next two years moving towards Canada Games.”

Team Quebec Blue topped Quebec White 41-34 in the all-Quebec bronze medal game on Sunday.

Six teams with athletes from Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec competed in the 4×4 tournament, sanctioned by Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) and presented by ParaSport and Recreation PEI.
