WBC Welcomes Edward Byers as Partnership Lead

Byers previously served two years on the board of WBC

Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is pleased to welcome Edward Byers to the organization as Partnerships Lead. Byers joins WBC after spending two years as a board member.

“We are excited to welcome Ed to the team at WBC,” said Wendy Gittens, Executive Director of Wheelchair Basketball Canada. “Ed’s experience in partnership development is invaluable as we build towards hosting the 2026 IWBF World Championships in Ottawa.”

Byers previously worked with the Vancouver Organizing Committee during the 2010 Olympics and was involved with the 2012 Olympics in London. The Gananoque, Ont. native also spent two years with Special Olympics Ontario working as the organization’s partnerships manager and then as a Games organizer when Kingston hosted the Special Olympics Ontario Spring Games in 2012.

Outside the sport field, Byers, a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University, served as the Director of Membership and Business Development at the Canadian Society of Association Executives and was the Manager, Partnership, Education and Events at REALPAC.

“I’m excited to join WBC in this new role,” said Byers. “As a board member, I was able to help from a strategic lens, and my experience on the board at WBC was fantastic. In that role, I was able to help from a high-level view, but now I’m excited to roll up my sleeves from an operational perspective.”
