All participants will need to complete a waiver to compete at National events
(OTTAWA, Ont.) – Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is proud to announce the adoption of the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP) across all national events, beginning with the 2026 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Finals.
This important step reinforces WBC’s ongoing commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants. The CSSP is an independent program that aims to prevent and address maltreatment in sport through education, resources, and an impartial reporting mechanism.
Starting at the 2026 CWBL Finals, all athletes, coaches, staff, and officials involved in WBC-sanctioned national events will be subject to the policies and procedures outlined within the CSSP.

Participants will also have access to the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP) reporting mechanism. The Sport Integrity Commissioner (SIC) accepts reports both online and by phone, with the option to remain anonymous.

“Ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our sport is a top priority,” said WBC Director of Development, Sean Liebich. “Adopting the Canadian Safe Sport Program strengthens our ability to provide a positive and supportive environment where athletes can thrive both on and off the court.”
The implementation of the CSSP aligns WBC with national best practices in safe sport and reflects a broader commitment within the Canadian sport system to protect participants at all levels.
