(Ottawa, Ont.) Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) has an immediate opening for a dynamic, energetic team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills to assist the organization in its marketing and fundraising efforts in the position of Fund Development Manager.
The Fund Development Manager is responsible for overseeing WBC’s fundraising efforts to solicit charitable and corporate contributions through the creation, implementation and delivery of a robust and innovative fundraising plan that supports the organization’s long term growth and revenue generation targets. Responsibilities include the development, execution and management of new and existing donor programs, strategic partnership development, grant applications and proposal writing, and other fundraising initiatives.
The range of functions requires a solid understanding of fundraising in the non-governmental / not-for-profit sector. Working closely with other Marketing and Communications staff, and the Executive Director, the Fund Development Manager functions as a member of a team while possessing the ability to work independently and advance projects and initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and manage a fundraising plan that focuses on donor programs, strategic partnerships, and grants;
- Oversee fundraising campaigns, programs, and initiatives aimed at engaging donors with the goal of moving them toward major gifts, monthly giving, and planned giving;
- Monitor and leverage trends in sport and other non-profit communities in the development of fundraising opportunities & tools (mobile, social media, multi-channel, etc.)
- Develop and integrate all fundraising channels into a cohesive and seamless donor appeal framework;
- Prioritize and foster strong relationships with donors and partners including recognition, stewardship, and relevant ongoing communications;
- Coordinate existing telephone, online, and direct mail fundraising efforts;
- Develop and coordinate donor stewardship and recognition programs;
- Work to identify, attract, cultivate, and retain prospective donors, strategic corporate partners, and other key stakeholders in order to leverage mutually beneficial opportunities
- Identify potential funding partners and make grant applications and other funding requests through targeted proposal writing;
- Develop funding support materials and coordinate production of resources as necessary;
- Other related tasks, activities, and responsibilities as needed.
Skills and Abilities required
- Minimum 3-5 years of fundraising experience preferably working for a non-governmental organization / not-for-profit, including solicitation of major corporate gifts;
- Solid business background with knowledge of fundraising principals;
- Experience with donor programs and grant writing;
- Exceptional writing, communication and analytical skills;
- Creativity and innovation;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and fundraising database systems;
- Flexibility and initiative;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to take direction and multi-task in a fast paced environment;
- Oral/written fluency in both official languages considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the amateur sport community considered an asset.
Terms of Contract
- 35-40 hours per week;
- 12-month contract position with the possibility of an extension;
- Some travel may be required;
- Salary will be commensurate with experience;
- Located at Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s national office in Ottawa, Ont.
