Wheelchair Basketball Week to be held Sept. 25 – Oct. 1

Events across the country will help enhance awareness, increase participation and support wheelchair basketball programs in Canada

Wheelchair Basketball Canada will host the second annual Wheelchair Basketball Week from September 25-October 1, 2023. In partnership with our Provincial Sport Organizations and club programs, Wheelchair Basketball Week will include events nationwide.

The week of initiatives includes an event in Ottawa at the RA Centre on Wednesday, Sept. 27, for House of Sport NSOs and members of the sport community to try wheelchair basketball. The event, presented in partnership with Ottawa Tourism and the RA Centre, will take place from 3-5 pm. On Thursday, Sept. 28, WBC will host Hoopfest, presented by Toyota Canada, from noon to 5 pm at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Hoopfest is WBC’s signature fundraising event. In Regina, the Paratroopers will host a kickoff tournament on Saturday, Sept. 30.

“We look forward to working with our provincial partners and club programs on the second annual Wheelchair Basketball Week,” said Wendy Gittens, Wheelchair Basketball Canada Executive Director. “The goal of the annual event is to unite the wheelchair basketball community across Canada to raise awareness, increase participation, and celebrate our sport as we prepare to host the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships.”
