
Bethany Johnson
Biography
During the summer between Grades 7 and 8, Bethany Johnson experienced a slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
Following her first hip surgery, Johnson was introduced to wheelchair basketball twice.
Johnson’s physiotherapist, Darren Bittner, who played wheelchair basketball for Team Manitoba, suggested she try the game. Then, Johnson’s gym teacher introduced her class to wheelchair basketball.
Interesting Facts
- Johnson has represented Team Manitoba in canoe-kayak.
- Johnson currently attends the University of Illinois, where she is studying sport management. She previously studied Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba.
- She was an avid curler growing up.

2024: Qualified for the 2024 Paralympic Games with an 88-30 victory over Algeria at the Women’s IWBF Repechage Tournament… Fourth place finish at the Paris Paralympic Games.
2023: Won bronze with Manitoba at the CWBL National Championship… Third place finish at the CWBL Women’s National Championship…Silver medal at 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile… Sixth at U25 Women’s World Championship… Fourth at the Canada Winter Games
2022: Finished first in Division 2 with Team NB/MB at the CWBL National Championship…Fifth at the Junior National Championship
