Reid Richard
Biography:
Reid Richard discovered wheelchair basketball in 2007. He saw wheelchair basketball as an opportunity to not only fuel his competitive fire, but also as a sport at which he could excel with hopes of one-day playing for Team Canada.
He honed his basketball skills while competing with the local club team in Regina, before he was ultimately invited to play for the Saskatchewan junior provincial team. In 2011, he and his Saskatchewan teammates earned national success by capturing the bronze medal at the Canada Games.
Richard propelled his game to the next level in 2013 by seizing a roster spot on the Canadian national junior team. According to him, the opportunity to don the maple leaf is a great accomplishment. “It is the fulfillment of a dream that I’ve had since I started playing wheelchair basketball,” he says. “To me, there is no greater honour than to be able to represent my country.”
When he is not competing or training for basketball, Richard enjoys hunting, fishing, knee boarding, badminton and golf. He also attends the University of Regina and plans to pursue a career in prosthetics and orthotics.
