BC, Quebec to play for gold at 2024 CWBL Women’s National Championship

Sunday’s gold medal game tips off at 1 p.m. at College la Cité

(OTTAWA, ONT.) – BC and Quebec will play for gold on Sunday at the 2024 CWBL Women’s National Championship at College la Cité.

Ontario and the Mixed team will battle for third place.

Quebec remains undefeated following a pair of wins on Saturday. The defending champion opened Day 2 of competition with a 72-40 victory over Ontario on Saturday morning.

Cindy Ouellet scored a game-high 16 points, nine assists, and four rebounds. Elodie Tessier added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Sandrine Berube contributed 11 points and three assists in the victory.

Ontario was paced by Danielle Duplessis’ 14 points and eight rebounds. Tamara Steeves added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Quebec followed it up with a 58-25 win over BC. Tessier led the way with a game-high 18 points and four assists. Ouellet contributed 12 points and four assists.

Elise Froese had a team-high 14 points and six rebounds for BC.

Saturday’s action concluded with Ontario defeating the Mixed team 51-28. Duplessis had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Steeves added six points and seven assists.

The Mixed team was led by Desiree Isaac-Pictou who had a team-high 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Anne-Marie Giguere added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The CWBL Women’s National Championship brings together women and girls nationwide to compete for the national title, celebrate female leaders, and connect with an inclusive, supportive sport community. Since its inception in 1990, Wheelchair Basketball Canada has championed this event, leaving a lasting legacy on and off the court and inspiring current, future, and past Paralympians.

The action continues on Sunday, beginning with the 3×3 recreational tournament at 9 a.m.

RogersTV Ottawa will air the 5-on-5 third-place and gold medal games on Sunday. The event is governed and presented by Wheelchair Basketball Canada.
