Canada completed a perfect 7–0 run in the women’s 3×3 tournament
OTTAWA, ONT. – Team Canada capped off an outstanding week in Santiago with a 15–4 victory over Colombia in Wednesday’s women’s 3×3 final to claim gold at the 2025 Youth Parapan American Games.
With the win, Canada completed a perfect 7–0 run, averaging 15 points per game while holding opponents to just 2.2 points per contest.
“We came into the game off a great warm-up and ready to execute the plan,” said Elise Froese. “From the start, we were hard on chairs and communicated with intention. A few slip-ups happened, but every mistake was rallied with a strong possession to follow.
“I loved getting to play with this group of girls all week, and I am proud of our performance from the start.”
Canada earned its place in the championship game following two wins over Brazil on Tuesday, including a commanding 17–1 semifinal performance.
The gold marks a historic achievement for Team Canada, improving on its silver-medal finish from the 2013 Youth Parapan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Canada closed out men’s round robin play with win over Argentina
Team Canada closed out men’s round robin play at the Youth Parapan Am Games with a 51–42 come-from-behind victory over Argentina on Wednesday.
Paced by a team-high 17 points, seven assists, and six rebounds from Ibrahim Odza, Canada overcame a sluggish start, outscoring Argentina 28-15 over the final two quarters to book a spot in Thursday’s semifinals against Brazil (5:30 p.m. EST).
“Definitely not the start we wanted, and it was not what we had experienced all week,” said head coach Darrell Nordell. “We had to claw our way back with good defence and chip in baskets from different spots and athletes throughout the game.
“Looking ahead to the semifinals, we can’t let this game bother us.”
Brandon Louie contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Canada, who shot 22-of-36. Nasif Chowdhury added 14 points on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting and picked up eight boards in the victory.
Team Canada turned the game around out of halftime, outscoring Argentina 16–9 in the third quarter to take a 39–36 lead heading into the final frame.
After a slow first half, Canada found its rhythm on both ends of the floor.
Defensively, Canada tightened up, limiting Argentina to just 30 percent shooting through three quarters and forcing turnovers to fuel the comeback. Bernard Rosello provided a steady presence on the glass with six rebounds.
Team Canada found its rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Argentina 15–6 to trim the deficit to just four at halftime, 27–23.
“Thought limiting Argentina to six points in the second quarter was our start to changing the game,” Nordell added. “It’s a long tournament and we had a flat start today.”
After a slow start in the opening frame, Canada tightened up defensively and began to convert in transition. Chowdhury led the comeback with eight first-half points, while Odza and Louie added seven apiece to fuel the turnaround.
Team Canada faced a tough start offensively, falling behind 21–8 after the opening quarter. Despite generating good looks, Canada struggled to convert.
Odza connected from beyond the arc, while Chowdhury and Louie added two points each. Jeffer Ward provided energy on the boards with four rebounds.
