Biography

Darrell Nordell is the head coach of the Canadian men’s U23 team. He has been a part of the wheelchair basketball community since 1993 and has served in a variety of roles at the national and international levels. Nordell has been the head coach of the Alberta Northern Lights, the Edmonton Inferno and the Alberta provincial team as well as assistant coach of the Canadian senior men’s national team.

As assistant coach, Nordell has been a valued member of the national team coaching staff since 2002. He helped Team Canada reach a number of podium finishes, most recently to silver at the 2015 Parapan Am Games on home soil in Toronto, Ontario and to gold at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

As a coach Nordell not only encourages athletes to work hard to improve their game, but also strives to ensure that they never lose their enjoyment of the game that they experienced when they first picked up the ball. He truly appreciates the team aspect of the sport, knowing that success comes from not only the five athletes on the court but through the combined efforts of all the players and coaches.
