Daniel’s Story

Daniel was 15 when the unthinkable happened. He was on a humanitarian trip with his church in the Dominican Republic when his hotel balcony collapsed and caused him to fall three stories. He sustained major injuries all over his body including a broken neck and back.

Nik’s Story

At the tender age of 15 Nik Goncin abruptly had his whole world turned upside down. An avid basketball player, Nik began to experience some pain in his knee. Thinking nothing of it at the time, he continued to play through the discomfort until, during a game, his leg buckled and he collapsed in pain. X-rays later revealed cancer in his left leg. The diagnosis required his leg to be amputated.

Melanie’s Story

Melanie was born with spina bifida, a condition in which the spinal column fails to completely develop causing defects in the spinal cord. Growing up, Melanie was often excluded from participating in her school gym classes alongside her peers because there was no inclusive programming.
