Canadians Rosalie Lalonde, Vincent Dallaire and Élodie Tessier shine in 2020-21 National Wheelchair Basketball Association collegiate season

Team Canada’s Rosalie Lalonde and Vincent Dallaire led their respective collegiate programs to national championship titles on Saturday in the U.S.-based National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA).

In her final season with the Crimson Tide, the Saint-Clet, Que., native helped the University of Alabama capture the NWBA 2021 women’s national championship by sweeping the University of Texas-Arlington (UTA) on home court in a best two-out-of-three format.

On the men’s side, Dallaire and the UTA Movin’ Mavs defeated the host University of Alabama 66-51 in the tournament final.

As part of the NWBA’s Intercollegiate Division Nationals weekend, Lalonde and the University of Alabama hosted both events.

Over championship weekend, the league also announced its award winners from the 2020-21 season, and furthermore an All-Tournament team for the men’s and women’s national championship was named.

On the women’s side, Team Canada’s Élodie Tessier (Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, Que.) of the UTA Movin’ Mavs joined Lalonde as part of the All-Tournament all-star team.

The collegiate sophomore also hit the books to pick up academic All-American team honours. Lalonde received an honorable academic All-American mention.

Dallaire, a collegiate freshman (Quebec, Que.) secured men’s All-Tournament all-star team honours.
