Americas Cup Day Two Recap: Canad Defeats Puerto Rico

Canada defeated an over-matched Puerto Rican team 67-23 today.  It was a great bounce back effort from Canada after a disappointing opening game loss to Argentina.

Canada led from start to finish, opening the game very strong once again with a 21-3 lead after the first quarter.

Canada stretched its lead to 41-7 at halftime and played the second half with a variety of line-ups. Canada eased up in the second half and allowed the Puerto Ricans to shoot from the outside, where they did convert on more points.  But Canada’s stingy defence kept Puerto Rico to just 20% shooting from the field, and Canada out-rebounded their opponents by a 2-1 margin (56-28).

Eight Canadian players made the score sheet with four players netting double digits.  David Eng and Nikola Goncin each scored 13 points while Dave Durepos scored 11 and Adam Lancia scored 10 points.  Aaron Moseley-Williams and Jonathan Vermette each scored their first official baskets with the Senior Team.

Team Canada will play Nicaragua August 6 at 11:30 a.m. local time.
