BC, NB/PEI Undefeated After Day 1 of 2022 Junior National Championship in Charlottetown

Team BC and the athletes representing New Brunswick and P.E.I. are undefeated following Day 1 of competition at the 2022 Junior National Championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

The team of mixed athletes from New Brunswick and P.E.I. opened the tournament with a 56-43 win over Alberta and concluded their day with a 52-29 victory over the athletes representing Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. BC defeated Manitoba 66-26 in their first game and wrapped up Friday’s slate of games with a 48-41 win over Quebec.

The round-robin portion of the Junior National Championship concludes on Saturday morning, and the semifinals are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on the University of Prince Edward Island campus. 

The three-day tournament is co-hosted by Wheelchair Basketball Canada and ParaSports and Recreation PEI and features the best junior wheelchair basketball athletes in Canada. This event acts as a seeding tournament and test event for the 2023 Canada Games in P.E.I. (Feb. 18-Mar. 5, 2023).

Fans and media are invited to attend the tournament. Media can capture visuals during the games, and athletes and coaches will be available for post-game interviews. The gold medal game will take place on June 12 at 11 a.m. ADT. Final results, schedule, and rosters can be found at www.wheelchairbasketball.ca.

Those attending are asked to wear a mask while at the venue and may be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination per the facility protocol.
