(Ottawa, Ont.) As Canada celebrates National Coaches Week from coast to coast to coast, Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is thrilled to congratulate legendary coach Tim Frick (Pender Island, B.C.) for being honoured by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) with a 2019 Community NCCP Coach Developer Award.
These awards recognize outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond to inspire and develop National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) coaches in their community. A total of 17 NCCP Coach Developers from across the country were recognized with an award for their contributions to the sport system in Canada.
“Tim Frick has invested considerable time and energy into developing and educating NCCP coaches, which has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on the community,” said Natalie Rumscheidt, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Coaching Association of Canada. “He is a proven leader who is an invaluable resource and mentor for aspiring coaches. We are honoured to present him with a 2019 Community NCCP Coach Developer Award.”
“Tim has devoted more than 35 years to the sport of wheelchair basketball and will forever be known as one of the world’s greatest coaches of all-time,” said Wendy Gittens, Executive Director of Wheelchair Basketball Canada. “Tim is an innovative leader and gifted mentor who has played a critical role in the development of WBC’s NCCP framework. He continues to create an extraordinary and lasting impact on the lives of athletes and fellow coaches at all levels of the game. On behalf of the Canadian wheelchair basketball community, we congratulate Tim on yet another achievement in his distinguished career.”
In addition to his years of service within coach education and development, Frick was also the coach of the Canadian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team from 1990-2009. In that time, he transformed Team Canada into an absolute dynasty that won an astounding three consecutive Paralympic gold medals and four consecutive world championship titles. Among his many accolades, Frick is a recipient of the CAC Geoff Gowan Lifetime Achievement Award and a member of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
