Manitoba, CIVA undefeated following Day 1 at CWBL Nationals

Inferno open Division 2 play with win

(Richmond, B.C.) – Manitoba and Centre d’Integration a la vie active (CIVA) are undefeated following the first day of competition at the 2023 CWBL National Championship at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Manitoba opened the day with a 69-55 victory over the BC Grizzlies. Emmanuel Fuentes scored a game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds, and Josh Brown added 24 points in the win. Manitoba wrapped up its day with an 83-72 victory over the Gladiateurs de Laval (GLADS). Fuentes added 33 points and 17 rebounds, while Reed De’Aeth scored 33 points.

CIVA started its day with a 71-51 victory over Club 99. Nic Palmer paced CIVA with 19 points and five rebounds, and Rosalie Lalonde chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds in the win. Then, CIVA wrapped up Saturday’s competition with a thrilling 77-73 overtime victory over the Calgary Rollers to remain undefeated.

The defending champion Scarborough Tigers fell 63-59 to the Calgary Rollers but rebounded to defeat the BC Grizzlies 67-52.

In Division 2 play, the Edmonton Inferno opened the CWBL Nationals with a 44-38 victory over the BC Orcas.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada and BC Wheelchair Basketball Society co-host the three-day tournament. It features the top club teams in the country competing for the title of national champions at the Richmond Olympic Oval. The competition resumes on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
