Marc Antoine Ducharme Named Team Sport Coach of the Year at 47th Gala Sports Québec

Canadian Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team head coach Marc Antoine Ducharme was named the Team Sport Coach of the Year at the 47th Gala Sports Québec on Tuesday, after leading Canada to great success in 2019.

“A big thank you to Sports Québec, Parasports Québec and Wheelchair Basketball Canada for the Coach of the Year award in team sport in Quebec,” said Ducharme. “Parasport has made enormous progress and is gaining more and more visibility in Quebec, in Canada and around the world and it all starts with small gestures like this one; integration. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the Gala Sports Québec.

“I would also like to thank all of the people who have contributed from near or far to my coaching journey, and especially to my team for their constant efforts on and off the court. We cannot forget their great performance in Lima last year to win the gold medal and qualify for the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Without these results, I would never have received this award recognition. This is only the beginning! Thank you.”

Ducharme coached Team Canada to an undefeated performance at the Lima 2019 Parapan Am Games, capped off by a thrilling gold medal victory over the reigning Paralympic champions and rival Americans. The top-two finish in Lima secured Canada’s place at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games – now postponed until 2021.
