Quebec remains undefeated, to play for gold at 2023 CWBL Women’s Nationals

Sunday’s gold medal game between Quebec and B.C. will be a rematch of the 2022 final

Quebec will meet B.C. in the gold medal game at the 2023 CWBL Women’s National Championship. Sunday’s meeting at Centre Pierre Charbonneau will be a rematch of the 2022 gold medal game, which B.C. won 66-52 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Quebec went 2-0 on Saturday to improve to 3-0 at the tournament, while B.C. won both games after dropping Friday’s opener against Quebec.

Quebec opened Day 2 with a 75-34 victory over Ontario. Élodie Tessier led Quebec with 16 points and four rebounds. Cindy Ouellet added 14 points, and Rosalie Lalonde chipped in nine points and four rebounds in the victory. Tamara Steeves paced Ontario with a game-high 22 points and five rebounds.

Quebec defeated the team of mixed athletes 60-18 to conclude 5-on-5 play on Saturday.

B.C. entered the win column with a 61-35 win against the team of mixed athletes to open their second day of competition. Tara Llanes had a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds to lead B.C. in scoring. Katie Miyazaki added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Anikka Cassidy led the team of mixed athletes with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Team BC wrapped up Saturday, defeating Ontario 60-33. Lannette Boland had a game-high 21 points. Elise Froese chipped in 14 points and four rebounds, while Miyazaki added 11 points and eight rebounds. Steeves scored a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds for Ontario.

In the recreational 3-on-3 tournament, BC 2 will battle BC 1 in the one semifinal while the Bulldogs will face Quebec in the other semifinal on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. ET.

The action concludes on Sunday with Ontario and the team of mixed athletes playing for bronze at 11:00 a.m. ET, followed by the gold medal game at 12:30 p.m. ET.
